Reverend White’s Story

Marriage Equality’s Last Step begins and ends in the Church. Take Action Here.

In 2012, Reverend Oliver White lost two thirds of his congregation, and then his Church, when he voiced his support for same-sex marriage. He lost his home. This Fall, the Reverend found his new Church.

Reverend White aims to create programs local to his Church in relation to youth employment, poverty, seniors and the LGBT community.

His main focus is to launch a LGBT Program, Churches for Safe Spaces, a network of Churches and LGBT organizations fostering inclusivity for the LGBT Community within the Church.

Initial Program Includes:

  • LGBT Program Directors
  • Spreading Safe Spaces among Churches across the nation (similar to GLSEN’s Safe Space Campaign for LGBT youth in schools)
  • Connecting with LGBT programs across the nation to create a LGBT resource hub for Churches
  • Marriage Equality Messaging (acceptance teachings to other churches)
  • Outreach Campaigns to Churches

We promise to keep you updated along the way. Get involved, participate and spread the word.

His mission for equality will start with his Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, and with your involvement, Churches for Safe Spaces will expand to Churches across the country who are on the verge of opening their doors to everyone.

Contact us to include your Church or your LGBT program in our network. Together we can make inclusivity a reality.

While Churches’ doors are closed to LGBT people, a divide will continue to grow between the LGBT community and the rest of society. Reverend White needs your involvement to break down the barriers that are preventing parents, uncles and friends from seeing their son, their niece, their brother and their neighbor as they are, instead of the gay stereotypes that make LGBT people second class citizens.

Get involved. He can’t do it alone.

“Love each other. That’s the only way this world can truly be free. That we love each other as we love ourselves. That means we love gays. We love lesbians. We love blacks. We love whites. We love old. We love young. And that’s an ongoing message.” – Reverend White
